Discover Siam Sunset Kenmore Thai

Tucked away at 3 Kersley Rd, Kenmore QLD 4069, Australia, Siam Sunset Kenmore Thai is the kind of neighborhood restaurant you almost want to keep secret. I first visited on a rainy Thursday evening after a friend insisted their green curry was the closest thing to what she tasted in Chiang Mai. After several return visits-both dine-in and takeaway-I can honestly say this spot has become one of Kenmore’s most reliable Thai dining options.

Walking in, you’re greeted by warm lighting, soft Thai décor, and the comforting aroma of lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and chili. The atmosphere feels relaxed rather than overly formal, which makes it ideal for family dinners, casual date nights, or even a quick weekday meal. The staff are attentive without hovering, and on each visit, they’ve been quick to explain spice levels and suggest dishes based on personal preference.

The menu is extensive but not overwhelming. It covers all the Thai classics-Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Massaman curry, Tom Yum soup-alongside lesser-seen regional dishes. On my first visit, I ordered the green curry with chicken. The sauce had that silky coconut base balanced with fresh Thai basil and just enough heat to build slowly without overpowering the palate. According to culinary research published by the Thai Ministry of Commerce, authentic Thai green curry relies on fresh curry paste made from green chilies, galangal, garlic, and shrimp paste. The flavor profile here felt aligned with that traditional method, rather than a watered-down version adapted for Western tastes.

Their Tom Yum soup is another standout. It delivers the bold citrusy kick you expect, layered with lemongrass and fresh herbs. The balance between sour, spicy, and savory notes reflects what food scholars often describe as Thailand’s “four essential taste pillars”: sweet, sour, salty, and spicy. The harmony of those elements isn’t easy to achieve, yet this kitchen handles it confidently.

For families, the menu offers flexibility. Spice levels can be adjusted from mild to genuinely fiery. I once dined with a group that included both children and serious chili lovers. The kitchen prepared two versions of the same stir-fry-one mild and one extra hot-without compromising flavor. That kind of attention shows a solid understanding of technique and customer care.

Siam Sunset Kenmore Thai also caters to takeaway orders efficiently. During peak Friday hours, my pickup order was ready within the quoted time. The packaging kept the curries hot and prevented leaks-small details, but important ones. According to hospitality data from Restaurant & Catering Australia, consistency and order accuracy significantly influence repeat business in suburban dining hubs. Based on local reviews and my own experience, this restaurant seems to understand that well.

In terms of ingredients, the freshness stands out. The vegetables maintain crunch in stir-fries, and the proteins-whether prawns, beef, or tofu-are cooked properly, not overdone. Thai cuisine depends heavily on timing and heat control. Stir-frying, for example, requires high heat for short durations to preserve texture and flavor. It’s clear the chefs here are trained in these foundational techniques.

Online reviews frequently highlight the friendly service and generous portion sizes. While every restaurant can have an occasional busy night, I haven’t personally encountered long delays or inconsistent dishes. That said, peak dinner times can get crowded, so reservations or early arrivals are smart if you’re dining in.

The location at 3 Kersley Rd places it conveniently for Kenmore locals and those passing through Brisbane’s western suburbs. Parking is straightforward, which adds to the stress-free experience. Compared with larger chain Thai restaurants, this place feels more personal and grounded in community.

If you’re scanning the menu wondering what to try, I’d recommend the green curry, Pad See Ew with beef, and the crispy pork belly stir-fry. Pair it with a Thai iced tea for a smooth creamy finish that balances the spices beautifully. Every dish I’ve tried has delivered consistent flavor, generous servings, and that comforting sense of authenticity that keeps you coming back.

  • This is a family favourite and we always feel welcome dining here. The staff are so friendly and always remember little things about their customers, which is a really nice touch. The food is absolutely delicious, good portion sizes and lots of meat in the dishes. Pricing is reasonable too. THe only downside, is it is a large restaurant that is not conducive to quiet and relaxing dining. Many of the customers are loud and inconsiderate of other diners.

  • I love Siam Sunset Kenmore! In my experience the food has always been WONDERFUL, and the staff have always been so lovely! FOOD: Definitely my favourite restaurant- my go to is the duck and lychee curry which was super out of my comfort zone to try for the first time, but WOW all of the different elements go so well together and the duck is not dry! Besides that, I love the yellow curry, and the dim sims and curry puffs are some of the best I’ve ever tried :) Also the Thai milk tea was life-changing haha STAFF: Again, they’ve been great in my experience. We’ve often come towards the end of the night so even tired after what I’m sure has been a long day, they’re so friendly and accomodating. Super nice location too, will always recommend this place and it’d be great for families as well. I hope everyone who visits this restaurant treats the staff with as much patience, kindness and respect as they give out to their customers :)

  • Food My wife and I dined on a busy Thurs night in Jan. We ordered two drinks, a Tiger ale (8 pesos) and a bottle of Varichon & Clerc sparkling white wine (10). For the food, it was fish cakes for a starter (11), two main courses: massaman beef curry (22), and a vegetable ensemble with basil and tofu (21), and, to accompany, a bowl of coconut rice (5). The fish cakes were soft and tender, perfect with a dollop of sweet chilli sauce. It was a serve of four little pieces, but enough to whet our appetites for what was to follow. And that didn’t disappoint either. The massaman beef was sensational, with generous pieces of chunky melt-in-your-mouth tender beef, soft potato and drenched in a tangy coconut sauce. The vegetable ensemble was fresh and wholesome with a selection of colourful vegetables although it was also a case of “spot the tofu”. Despite the lack of tofu, we both enjoyed our meals. Presentation is neat and stylish on shining, smart crockery, embossed with the smart “Siam Sunset” logo. Service The all-Thai all- female wait staff (no diversity here!) are colourfully attired in what I assume are traditional outfits, with baggy pants and floral tops. And we found them all to be polite, friendly and efficient. Despite it being almost a full house, there was no compromise on the service. Our booked table was ready and waiting for us. Orders were promptly taken, and drinks, starter and main courses came out at a steady clip, in the correct order. Atmosphere On the website, it suggests that you make a booking to ensure that you get a table and these guys aren’t kidding. Luckily I took their advice and booked ahead and was glad that I did, because it was near full. The place is large and airy with huge windows flung wide open in the front giving that part of the restaurant an almost alfresco feel to it, although it’s not completely outdoors. From the back section, where we sat, there are attractive district views out of the windows. There are ceiling fans in the front and loads of greenery, giving the whole joint a bright and cheerful ambience. The floors are either stone in one part or wood in the back part where we sat, with no carpets so consequently it can get hellishly noisy. As you would expect from such a popular place, the atmosphere is lively, fun and energetic. But it’s also casual and informal. Perfect for a night out with friends or fam. Cost We paid a hefty 77 pesos for two drinks, a starter, two mains and rice. We can’t really blame the restaurant industry for this Weimar Republic-like crazy hyperinflation, but still, it’s quite unbelievable to think that a year or two ago, this would have been 50! Our little Aussie peso is being reduced to rubble thanks to massive govt spending and a Reserve Bank that cares more about its reputation than controlling the money supply. Toilets There is only one toilet, which isn’t enough for a large restaurant that’s perennially busy. You need to be prepared to queue. If you are lucky to get a chance to use it, you will find it clean and well provisioned with soap and hand towels, and an ageing 1980s style hand dryer. Parking S.S. is situated in the little Kersley Road Shopping Village on the corner of Kersley and Kenmore Roads. Other tenants there include a well stocked and handy B.W.S. liquor store and a convenience store. There’s a small car park at the front, with tiny, awkward spaces, which I struggled to manoeuvre my car into. Summary We had a pleasant evening at S.S., and everything ran smoothly. It’s not surprising that this is such a popular joint. It’s professionally run and managed, with excellent food, fast and efficient service and a cool ambience. My only issues are the high noise factors and the insufficient toilets.

  • Hubby and I went off to the wilds of Kenmore to catch up with a friend. She chose this restaurant as she had enjoyed their takeaways. It is surprisingly atmospheric even though in the middle of a tiny shopping centre. The restaurant is surrounded by trees (lit up at night) and feels calm, attractive and exotic. Service is very efficient and prompt. We chose: mild mussaman chicken with roti for me, mild mussaman lamb shank for her and hubby had a spicier (2 chilli) Panang beef curry. We had 2 serves of jasmine rice, while I chose coconut rice (rice is a paid extra, not complimentary). All were equally delicious, full of flavour and generous in serve size. In fact, I took home a doggy bag which I ate for lunch the next day. The Maryland chicken was full of tender, succulent meat falling off the bone, and lots of potato pieces and sauce. The others said their meals were also tender, tasty and flavourful, with delicious spiciness. We drank: rosé, coconut water and lychee water. We decided to stuff in dessert and green tea to finish. All fabulous. I devoured coconut ice cream with lychees, she had black sticky rice with coconut ice cream, and hubby had deep-fried ice cream with strawberry topping. These were generous serves, but so delicious, we ate everything in the cute, cut-glass boat-like dishes. The green tea was light and refreshing, and a good digestive. Oh, did I say how delicious the roti was? I am not a bread fan usually but this was wonderful. We had a terrific night with great food and company. (Maybe we were enjoying ourselves too much; we must have been kinda loud, as the next table moved away from us.) Hubby and I may even trek out there again some night, into the wilds of the Western suburbs.

  • The food is good and tasty, staff are friendly. Sadly the Papaya salad was 70% iceberg lettuce, the small amount that was given was nice. Other dishes were fine and enjoyed by all. Pricing is fair
